How to unzip compressed files

So you have downloaded a DOWNLOAD ALL file or you have ordered some digital downloads from SmugMug and now you need to download those files in ZIP archive format – but for some reason you are not sure how to do this.

First very important thing:

DIGITAL DOWNLOADS LINK WILL NOT WORK ON MOBILE DEVICE – YOU HAVE TO DOWNLOAD THEM ONTO YOUR COMPUTER

Once downloaded – you will need to unzip it to access its content.

To decompress (unzip) a file or folder on a Mac, double-click on the file that you have just downloaded { it is usually in your DOWNLOADS folder }.

To open a zipped file on a PC, drag the .zip attachment to the desktop. Once the file is on the desktop, you can double- or right-click to open it.

Double-click the zipped file to see its contents. When prompted, drag the files out of the window to the desired location or click Extract All. When you click Extract All, the files are unzipped in the same location as the original file unless you specify a different one in the Select a Destination window.

Right-click the zipped file and select Extract All. By default, files are extracted to the location as the original zipped file. Use the Select a Destination window to save the files somewhere else.

Don’t have an unarchiver on your computer?  No worries!  You can try Stuffit Expander – which is available for Mac and PC free of charge:
