How to find a sitemap link on your SmugMug website

In this tutorial, I will guide you through the process of locating the sitemap file link on your SmugMug account.

ℹ️ But before I do this – let me explain what a sitemap is:

A sitemap is a file that lists all the pages of a website, helping search engines to navigate and index the site’s content. It is usually in XML format and includes information about the pages, such as their URLs, when they were last updated, and their importance in relation to other pages on the site. Sitemaps are important for SEO because they tell search engines about the structure and organization of a site, making it easier for them to crawl and rank the site’s pages.

Google and other search engines will usually find the sitemap on your SmugMug account automatically, so you can just leave this as it is. There are tinkerers { 👨🏼‍💻 like myself } who prefer submitting the link manually to Google Search Console.

So where can I find the link to my sitemap file?

All SmugMug websites have a sitemap-index.xml file – except TRIAL account. SmugMug does not allow indexing of TRIAL accounts.

But as soon as you have paid for your SmugMug account – you will be able to access your sitemap file under:

https://yoursmugmugnick.smugmug.com/sitemap-index.xml or if you have a custom domain https://www.yourcustomdomain.com/sitemap-index.xml

Let me give you an example on my SmugMug website that has a custom domain attached. My SmugMug website address is https://www.photom.me so the sitemap file is located under https://www.photom.me/sitemap-index.xml
